Biohacker DNA reads supported calls from a raw 23andMe or Ancestry file and saves them in a DNA health profile. Its headline is a Genetic Optimization percentage. Below it, you can see category results, gene details, nutrition guidance, and medication findings. MTHFR is one of the supported genes.
The profile is a snapshot of the file you imported. Daily Apple Health data does not change it. You update it by rescanning a file.
What do MTHFR gene results and the profile show?
MTHFR results appear in the Gene Panel. A supported MTHFR call can also contribute to methylation and nutrition results. The profile puts these gene details beside broader summaries.

These results explain the supported calls found in your file. They cannot confirm whether you have a health condition.
How does an imported DNA file become a saved result?
- You select a raw data text or CSV file exported by 23andMe or Ancestry.
- Biohacker DNA reads tab-separated or comma-separated rows. A genotype call is the pair of DNA letters reported at one tested position.
- The app matches supported rsIDs and normalizes known file prefixes and letter order.
- Unsupported positions and unusable calls are skipped.
- The remaining matches build the covered categories and headline result. They also build the gene details and saved profile.
The app stores the completed profile on your device. It does not recalculate the saved result in the background.
How does missing DNA data affect the profile?
Missing data can affect different parts of the profile in different ways:
- An unsupported rsID is ignored.
- A blank call,
0,-, or an insertion or deletion call is skipped. - A category with no covered genes is left out of System Efficiency.
- The Gene Panel can show No Data for a supported gene without a usable call.
- A nutrition area can show Not tested when the file does not cover it.
The headline does not show a coverage count. Each file may cover a different set of categories. The headline can use a different mix as a result. The archetype view can also assign a default Bio-Squad type when an axis has no covered call. Check System Efficiency and the Gene Panel to see what your file supplied.
Direct-to-consumer files do not test every relevant variant. MedlinePlus explains that incomplete results can give false reassurance.
Example: MTHFR is covered but sleep is not
Suppose a file contains supported MTHFR calls. It has no supported calls for the sleep category. Methylation results can appear, while the sleep category is omitted. A supported gene without a usable call can still show No Data in the Gene Panel. This example describes coverage, not risk.
If no supported, usable calls remain after import, the scan cannot produce a profile. The app asks you to try another file.
How can you use the result?
Start with System Efficiency. Open the lowest covered category and review the contributing variants. Then use the Gene Panel to check which genes matched. You can also see the genotype from the file and the effect shown by the app.
Use nutrition and medication findings to prepare questions. Speak with a clinician or pharmacist before you act on a DNA finding. Ask for their advice before you change a medicine or supplement.
Use the saved profile as long-term context. Your current symptoms and recent health data remain separate from this DNA snapshot.
When can you view or update Biohacker DNA?
Biohacker DNA is off in the current release settings. It does not appear in App Store or TestFlight builds. This page explains the version under development.
When the feature is enabled, open Personal Information. Choose Biohacker DNA, then import a file. The saved profile stays unchanged until you select Rescan DNA File. A rescan replaces the earlier profile. The screen does not keep a result history or show a before-and-after change.
New file support or new interpretation rules do not change a saved profile. They apply after you rescan the file.
